Advanced Fetal Ultrasound & Diagnostics

Seeing beyond the surface. We provide the clarity and diagnostic precision required to protect your pregnancy, using the most advanced technology in Central India.

A Routine Scan vs. A Fetal Medicine Scan

A standard ultrasound looks at the baby. A Fetal Medicine Scan meticulously evaluates the baby's entire anatomy, genetics, and environment. Led by Dr. Kunda Shahane, our scans are rigorously structured evaluations designed to detect subtle abnormalities early, ensuring you have the knowledge and medical support needed for a safe journey.

11 to 14 Weeks

First Trimester NT Scan & Aneuploidy Screening

This is your baby's first major structural milestone. The Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan measures the fluid at the back of the baby's neck. Combined with maternal blood tests, this is the gold standard for assessing the risk of chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome.

  • Precise measurement of Nuchal Translucency (NT).
  • Evaluation of the nasal bone and major organs.
  • Early detection of severe structural anomalies.
  • Assessment of risk for preeclampsia.
18 to 22 Weeks

Targeted Anomaly Scan (Level II)

Often called the "20-week scan," this is a meticulous, head-to-toe structural survey of your baby. Dr. Kunda Shahane's extensive training allows her to thoroughly examine the brain, face, spine, heart, abdomen, and limbs to ensure healthy development.

  • Detailed neurosonography (brain structure).
  • Assessment of the spine to rule out spina bifida.
  • Evaluation of placenta position and amniotic fluid volume.
  • Identification of subtle markers for genetic syndromes.
Specialized

Fetal Echocardiography with STIC

Congenital heart defects are the most common birth anomaly. A standard scan only views the basic four chambers of the heart. A dedicated Fetal Echo is an exhaustive evaluation of the heart's intricate structure, blood flow, and rhythm.

  • Crucial for mothers with Diabetes or a family history of heart disease.
  • Advanced STIC technology creates a beating 3D model of the heart.
  • Detects abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).
  • Allows for immediate pediatric cardiology planning before birth.
Advanced Imaging

3D/4D Scans & Fetal Doppler

While 3D/4D scans provide a beautiful bonding experience by showing your baby's face, they are also powerful diagnostic tools used to assess surface abnormalities like cleft lip. Doppler scans measure the blood flow in the umbilical cord to ensure the baby is receiving enough oxygen and nutrients.

  • Lifelike 4D visualization of your baby's movements.
  • Doppler assessment for Fetal Growth Restriction (FGR).
  • Evaluation of maternal uterine artery blood flow.
  • High-resolution imaging powered by GE Voluson AI.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an Anomaly Scan if my NT scan was normal?
Yes, absolutely. The NT scan primarily screens for chromosomal issues (like Down syndrome) in the first trimester. The Anomaly Scan at 18-22 weeks is a structural scan that checks the physical development of organs like the brain, heart, and kidneys, which cannot be fully evaluated during the earlier scan.
Is 3D and 4D ultrasound safe for my baby?
Yes. 3D and 4D ultrasounds use the exact same safe sound wave technology as standard 2D ultrasounds. There is no radiation involved. However, as per medical guidelines, ultrasounds should only be performed by trained specialists for valid medical or diagnostic reasons, which is our strict protocol at Mayflower Clinic.
How should I prepare for my ultrasound appointment?
For early pregnancy scans (like the NT scan), you may be asked to come with a full bladder to help lift the uterus for better visibility. For later scans (like the Anomaly Scan), a full bladder is usually not required. We recommend eating a light meal or having something sweet beforehand, as it can encourage the baby to move, making it easier to get clear images.
Can I bring my partner to the scan?
Yes, we encourage you to bring your partner. Fetal scans are an important bonding experience, and in the event that Dr. Kunda needs to discuss complex medical findings or genetic counseling, having your support system present is highly beneficial.
